Of the 10 newly reported deaths, two were jail/prison inmates, six were residents of long-term care or assisted-living facilities, and two were from private residences. The state's death toll from the novel coronavirus is now at 1,435. COVID-19 patients requiring care in the hospital continues to drop in Minnesota, with Monday's update showing that ICU patients are down to 140 and total hospitalizations has dropped to 278." On the heels of a recent dust-up over a St. Paul Police Department document describing the Metro Transit Green Line as a “crime magnet” and source of increased crime in the metro, a new video has surfaced showing two teens robbing and assaulting a man in a wheelchair at a light rail transit platform near the Minnesota Capitol. The attack happened about 4:30 on Sunday afternoon Aug. 25 on a transit platform near Rice Street, but was just revealed in a report on Friday by WCCO. The video shows two suspects who were reported to be 14 years old approaching the man, accosting him before knocking him over and apparently stealing his cell phone. The teens can be seen fleeing from the robbery on green Nice Ride rental bikes. After a man drove into the rear of a St. Paul police squad, he immediately ran toward the officer, body camera footage of the fatal encounter released Tuesday shows.
Officer Steve Mattson’s camera spun upside down as the officer immediately wound up on the ground and the officer said, “Holy (expletive).” The officer’s flashlight fell and Ronald Kerry Davis, 31, can be seen on video holding a knife in one hand and the flashlight in the other as he continued to run toward Mattson, who had stood back up. Mattson shouted, “Get away from me. Drop the knife. Drop the (expletive) knife. Drop the knife!,” and then he shot Davis.
